The battle of Saratoga was a grand turning point in the American Revolution because the British army, which led by their overconfident General, John Burgoyne. The British crawled south at a slow pace, giving the scattered Americans time to regroup. During a supprize attack on the British led by Benedict Arnold forcing the British to retreat to Saratoga, there they were surrounded by a belated outpouring of militia, Burgoyne surrendered ten days later.
