The Second Continental Congress met on May 5th, 1775 after the battles at Lexington and Concord. Some delegates there were Sam Adams, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Patrick Henry, and George Washington. There were mixed feelings on what should be done about the continued hostile acts of the British Parliament. Some wanted immediate peace no matter what the cost was, but some were still faithful to the king and wanted to avoid any cause of war. They finally decided to go in slowly and not to make any big moves that might cause a war between them. They also wanted to be protected, so they formed a Continental Army and put George Washington as Commander in Chief.
